Ok. I know link sections are usually stupid and this one is probably no exception, but it's a tradition that forms the very core of the web, so here they are.

Slashdot-Like the tag line says "News for Nerds, stuff that matters" if you're a geek you need to visit the site daily The Jargon File -The place on the net to learn about hacker culture, the history of computing and obscure terms. I recommend you read the whole thing. The Screen Savers-pretty much the only real geek show on tv, great stuff. Anandtech- the prime source for hardware info The Art of Unix Programming- a great book, especially the chapters on programming philosophy. GAIM -an open source IM client that I really dig Firefox -for anyone who hasn't woken up and realized IE is worse than useless. Thunderbird for anyone who hasn't realized the same thing about Outlook. (also if you don't use IMAP you should). FileZilla- a well done GPLed FTP client Crimson Editor Fed up with note pad? I was, here's the solution I found. Eclipse - a java IDE. If you have the misfortune to program in Java, this makes life easier.
