This Room is Fucking with my Head
So I’m back in Oakland, and am very, very happy about that. The transition, however, was not nearly as smooth as I would have hoped. Consdiering the number of things which could have gone wrong, I suppose it wasn’t that bad. Housing fortunately managed not to screw up the room assignment like they did last year. However, I knew that since 2West has been turned into some sort of international/global something or other community, I was moved to 2East. Now what I didn’t realize until I got here was that the new room is a mirror image of the old one. That is, take my old room and do a transformation about the y-axis, everything is backwards. Now adapting to a brand new room is one thing, but dealing with a room which is almost exactly like the place I lived for two years. save for it being backward is just freaky. I got so totally lost when I tried to urgently go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. I’m sure I’ll get used to it evetually, grumble grumble.
The major crisis of yesterday was, as expected, the failure of the network to work correctly. It seems no matter how idiot proof Resnet tries to make the install process, something always pervents me from having network access right away. First, it was a windows upgrade breaking PPPOE (requiring a painful windows reinstall), then it was the switch from PPPOE to 802.1x, and this time it was just a stupid network adapting speed setting (something which their idiot proof wizard out to have taken care of). Other complaints include my bed being freakish high off the ground, which bugs me because I can’t just flop onto it like I’m used to, maybe I’ll try and have it replaced, I’ll see how much of a pain that would be. Both the network port and cable box, while functional, are visbly damaged. Also the bathroom is noticibly smaller than my old one. Oh and do to construction on the hill it looks like I my have to take a detour which would add 5 min each way, all to avoid 1000 ft of blocked off sidewalk, hoping there’s a better solution.
Despite all of these problems, it feels good to have a space completely to myself again, being able to do what I want arbitaraly without having to worry about distrubing anyone. I’m hoping that this term will be less stressful than last, if so I’ll try to blog with increased frequency cause I know you all are dying for more posts.
