Stuff I’ve been meaning to blog about
So there’s a number of little things that have been blog worthy I’m consolidating them into this post because I don’t feel like doing a major post.
More RSS Fun!
Each category page now has it’s own RSS feed. So if all you care about is my exciting personal life, you can subscribe to the Personal Feed and only see those posts. The are now RSS links over on the side bar. Ideally, I’d like it so that if you goto a category page, firefox auto detects the feed for just that page, no luck yet. Enjoy.
Links
I also updated the links section over on a sidebar. Check them all out. But here are a few that deserve special mention:
- Majorly English. Pete is a pre-med student turned English Major at Notre Dame. His writing is witty and he often has so astute observations. I’m mentioning him because he’s linked to me for months and I never got around to returning the favor, whoops.
- Marginal Revolution is like Freakonomics blog gone hard core. They constantly have tons of economics applied to everyday life type stuff. Highly recommended.
- Overheard in Pittsburgh is a blog dedicated to capture amusing utterances in our fair city. Great way to laugh at the common people. *waits for someone to submit something stupid he said*
Holy TV Batman!
So my dad finally broke down and bought a 50″ inch plasma. It’s fucking amazing. The HD content is grougeous (it even makes watching football enjoyable). Of course, all the network shows are in reruns for the holidays, so I haven’t be able to enjoy to its fullest. Even more applicable to my tv watching habits is how great DVDs look at 480p with a true 16:9 widescreen aspect. The experience of this tv, coupled with an sudden influx of Xmas cash has made me bound and determined to get a new tv. For practical reasons and to let prices come down a little more, I’ll probably wait until I have an apartment(gods willing, this summer). I’ve thinking LCD around the 30″ range and I would much rather pay for higher quality that’s going to meet my needs for a while, they buy a cheap one. Suggestions for either models or features I ought to look for are welcome in the comments.
Lyrics
I love song lyrics and am constantly googling them, either for clarification or to post in away messages. A few months ago I stumbled upon evillyrics. A great (windows only, sorry *nix geeks) program that sits in the system tray and downloads the lyrics of the currently playing song. It works with most major media players(though clearly, winamp whips the llama’s ass). For some reason, the regular download link is broken, but if you goto the development section and download that one, it works fine.
That’s all for now. There may or may not be a post tomorrow night and I’ll be offline (and out of the bubble) from Thurs-Mon. Return to Oakland expected sometime Tues.
